Anglo-Celt visits Creevy

7th Jun 2019

Brian Armitage from the Ulster Council of the GAA brought the Anglo-Celt cup into school this morning. The Anglo-Celt cup is presented to the winners of the Ulster senior football championship each year.  Donegal are the current holders and they play tomorrow against Tyrone in the Ulster semi-final.

Oisín and Micheál McGrath carried the cup into the hall for assembly. Brian told us all about the cup - when it was made, who has won it most times and who won it for the first time. He told us that the original cup is in the museum in Armagh. He told told us about his job on match days is to get the teams ready to parade after the band.

Mr Boyle told us that he has played in three Ulster finals, all against Armagh but unfortunately Donegal were beaten each time. Ms Kelly also reminded us that Fermanagh are the only county in Ulster who hasn’t won the cup.

After assembly Brian kindly brought the cup around each classroom and we had our photo taken with the cup.
